Decorative Large Area Rug

Bringing a room together and protecting the existing wall-to-wall carpeting is easily done with a well-placed with a large area rug. There are many places where you can get area rugs, including department stores, on-line retailers, as well as small shops. There are a few crucial factors like color, pile, and size to keep in mind when looking for area rugs.

You can find several places that offer area rugs of all sizes. Home improvement stores tend to stock a large variety of area rugs, and so do many department stores. Another good place to find large area rugs is on the internet, though you may have to do deal with high shipping costs because of the weight and size of the rugs you order. Some places have roadside stands and parking lot tents that can sell you a huge variety of area rugs. Many times the rugs they have at these locations are drastically cheaper than in other locations. One problem faced by many of those buying large rugs is how to get them home.

Before buying any large area rugs, you need to measure the area the area rug is going to go. The area rug should cover a good-sized area of the room, but not necessarily go wall to wall. If the rug is too large, then the edges will curl up where they come in contact with the wall, which can pose quite a tripping hazard. A rug that is too large can also get in the way of the opening and closing of any doors that lead into a room. A rug that is too small will look odd and detract from the overall feel of the room. It can also make the space seem too large and convoluted.

The thickness of the area rug is largely determined by the pile, and is something to keep in consideration. A large area rug with too high of a pile can be a possible tripping hazard if the side of the rug is placed in a high foot-traffic area. This can also make it more difficult to close and open doors. Too low of a pile could also make the rug less comfortable for people to walk on. In a family room or play room, a high pile area rug would be a great idea because it is more comfortable to sit and lay on. A low pile area rug would do well in a high traffic area because it will take a lot of abuse.

Most rooms have a distinct accent dolor or decor that you may want to work with. You can find area rugs come in so many distinct and varying colors and patterns that it should be easy to find one that perfectly fits your home. Consider bringing a sample of the color with you, as it will help you find a good color match. Having an area rug in your decorating means that you can have a neutral-colored room-wide carpet run through your entire home. Many homes have design themes in a room, and whatever theme that is can be reflected in the area rug just as well.

Decorating your home isn’t as hard as it initially seems. A simple large area rug can change an entire room from bland to exciting.
